Privacy Policy
Introduction
TrialFinder provides general information about clinical trials. We minimize data collection and do not ask for personally identifiable information.
Resources & educational content
The Resources section does not collect any personal data beyond what is described elsewhere in this policy. We do not track which individual articles you read. Page views in this section are included only in the same privacy-oriented, aggregate analytics (Umami) used across the site.
What we do not collect
There are no user accounts at this stage, and we do not use marketing or advertising cookies. We do not use Google Analytics or similar advertising or ad-tech platforms.
Analytics (Umami)
We use Umami (hosted at cloud.umami.is) to collect aggregate usage information, including page views and optional custom events (for example, interactions with certain features). Umami is designed for privacy: it does not rely on advertising cookies, and it does not collect personally identifiable information. We do not send free-text search queries to Umami—only non-sensitive metadata such as language and filter settings may be included in events. Technical processing may occur on Umami’s infrastructure; see how they handle data at https://umami.is/privacy
Cookies and browser storage
Language preference: we set a small first-party cookie (name: locale) so the site can load in Hebrew or English on your next visit. It is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking (SameSite=Lax, long-lived path=/).
Recent searches: the last few unique queries (typically three to five) are stored only in your browser’s local storage (localStorage) for convenience, so you can tap them again. The list itself is never uploaded to our servers; only the active query is sent when you run a search. You can clear Recent searches at any time using “Clear” on the home page.
Theme (light/dark): your choice may be stored in the browser (typically localStorage by the theme library) and is not used to identify you.
This browsing session only: an optional search snapshot may be kept in session storage so “back to search results” can restore your query. It is cleared when you close the tab (and is not your name or email).
Anonymous data
We may store generic search keywords and result counts in a database table (search intents) to improve the product, as well as anonymous click events (for example, a click on a contact link). Those records are strictly anonymous: they are not linked to IP addresses, browser session identifiers, or the local “Recent searches” list on your device. We do not store IP addresses, device identifiers, or information that identifies an individual.
See also “Cookies and browser storage” above for how recent searches are kept on your device.
Artificial intelligence
Plain-language summaries (Hebrew or English, depending on site language) are generated using Google Gemini based on public trial protocol text. User personal data is not sent to this service.
AI-generated summaries (via Gemini) are experimental and for informational purposes only. Information may be inaccurate or incomplete. Always verify details with the official trial listing and a qualified clinician.
Storage and security
Data is stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL) according to the provider’s security practices. API keys are kept in server-side environment variables only.
